This position works under the general guidance and direction of the Fire Department superior officers to apply fire suppression methods to protect life and property from the hazards of fire. Performs rescue from a variety of hazardous situations and responds to releases of hazardous products to protect lives, property and the environment. Performs safety inspections, public safety education and maintenance of buildings, apparatus and equipment.

Performs basic life support skills and extractions. While direction is given by superior officers, work requires initiative on the part of the firefighter and the ability to accept responsibility when no senior officer is immediately available.

2027 hiring range: $87,767.68 to $ per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

• Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls to extinguish or control fires.
• Conducts fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning of buildings.
• Maintains fire apparatus and equipment
• Attends regular and assigned training to maintain and upgrade firefighter skills.
• Performs as driver/operator of fire apparatus.
• Performs general maintenance work pertaining to upkeep of Fire Department apparatus, equipment and buildings.
• Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
• Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.
• Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.
• Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions and outside agencies, and the general public.
• Performs essential position duties and responsibilities under the working conductions and physical demands described herein.
