About This Position

Microscopically evaluates (screens and interprets) gynecological and non‑gynecological cytologic preparations according to laboratory procedures and workload policies. Communicates abnormal or significant findings to the pathologist for review and reporting of cytologic results to meet the needs of adolescent, adult and geriatric customers.

CT (ASCP) certification required within 1 year of hire and maintained as a condition of continued employment - NMHC Standard.

Requirements Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college / university required.
  • Successful completion of a 12‑month CAAHEP accredited Cytotechnology programme required.
Experience
  • Minimum of one year current cytology experience preferred.
  • Able to microscopically evaluate (screens and interprets) gynecological and non‑gynecological cytologic preparations according to laboratory procedures and workload policies.
  • Able to make diagnostic decisions about normal versus benign, atypical and abnormal cellular changes, inflammation, infection and hormonal changes as well as decisions about specimen adequacy.
  • Able to accurately screen an average of 60–80 slides per day.
  • Ability to operate laboratory computer system as appropriate.
  • Able to assist pathologists and radiologists during fine needle aspiration procedures as needed, including smear preparation, fixation and staining.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organisation and communication skills.
Licensure/Certification

CT (ASCP) certification required within 1 year of hire and maintained as a condition of continued employment - NMHC Standard.
