Medical Billing Specialist

We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support financial clearance and pre-registration activities for hospital services in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a long-term contract position focused on verifying coverage, interpreting benefits, and helping patients understand their financial obligations before care is delivered. The role works in a fast-paced, high-volume healthcare revenue cycle environment and partners closely with patient access teams, clinical staff, and remote colleagues to ensure accurate and timely account preparation.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct pre-registration and financial clearance activities by gathering required patient information and entering complete, accurate details into the designated health record system.
• Review insurance eligibility for upcoming services, validate active coverage, and document verification results thoroughly for each account.
• Analyze payer benefits to determine covered services, authorization needs, policy limits, effective dates, and expected out-of-pocket costs for patients.
• Prepare clear cost estimates in advance of treatment and explain financial responsibility information so patients can make informed decisions.
• Communicate important care-related and administrative information to patients and families, including required forms, policies, and service expectations.
• Identify accounts with insufficient coverage, discuss available assistance options, and connect patients with financial counseling or applicable support programs.
• Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to resolve pre-service issues that could delay care, billing, or reimbursement.
• Provide guidance to newer team members when needed, sharing knowledge related to payer requirements, front-end revenue cycle workflows, and documentation practices.
