SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to join our Red Lower Level Pharmacy Team. This position is full time with benefits, Monday
- Friday, day shift. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Purpose of this position: Under the supervision of other Pharmacy staff, the Pharmacy Assistant provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service in a fast work environment in a community pharmacy setting. Must be able to handle multiple tasks (waiting on customers, putting away medications, performing clerical duties, etc.) every day. Assist technicians and pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all patient interactions
  • Handles cash register transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Handles inquiries that do not require a certified pharmacy technician or pharmacist's expertise and judgment
  • Prepares prescriptions to be mailed or couriered to patients
  • Places completed prescription orders in the appropriate location of the will-call bins
  • Files paper prescriptions after they have been dispensed
  • Stocks pharmacy medications and supplies received from distributor/wholesaler and refills vials, paper and labels in the printers, and other general clerical duties as assigned
  • Assists with returning unclaimed prescriptions from will-call to pharmacy stock
  • Tubes completed discharge medications to the floors for patients leaving the hospital
  • Assists with checking pharmacy shelves for medication outdates as determined by pharmacy procedure
  • Maintains cleanliness of pharmacy and dispensing area
  • Smiles and greet patients in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy assistant/clerk
  • Previous experience managing point-of-sale transactions
  • Computer and advanced keyboard/typing skills
  • Ability to speak a second language
    - Spanish, Somali or Hmong preferred
  • Working towards a licensed technician certification through a certified national program

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Maintains the confidentiality of the customer's private medical information according to the HIPPA act
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills; be a team player, and promote positive team environment
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Proficient in the English language

  • Ability to problem solve effectively
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Ability to apply basic math skills
  • Basic typing skills
