Post-Master's Fellowship — Pre-Licensed Therapist | LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC Track

Lorenz Clinic of Family Psychology | Minneapolis–St. Paul Metro | Full-Time | Salaried | W-2 | In-Person

Applications are open for Lorenz Clinic's 2026 Post-Master's Fellowship — a nationally recognized, full-time, paid psychotherapy training position for pre-licensed clinicians pursuing LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC licensure in Minnesota. Each year, a small cohort selected from over a thousand applicants nationwide trains here in relational, systemic, and developmentally informed psychotherapy. About half relocate from across the country to participate.

A cover letter is required. Applications without one will not be considered.

The Problem This Fellowship Solves

Most pre-licensed clinicians leave graduate school well-prepared and largely on their own — assembling supervision here, a caseload there, hoping the hours accumulate in the right categories before the money runs out. The worst-case scenario is a throughput role where the first casualty is your learning, and two years pass and you've accumulated hours but haven't really been formed.

This fellowship was built because we think the pre-licensure period deserves better than that.

What the Fellowship Includes
  • 8 hours/month of supervision — 4 with a doctorally prepared psychologist, 4 with a licensed professional supervisor
  • Full-day monthly PMF Seminar — structured around the APA Competency Benchmark domains, with guest practitioner-scholars
  • Weekly didactic seminar shared with doctoral psychology interns — ethics, attachment, object relations, trauma, family systems, neuroscience, and more
  • Monthly Grand Rounds — CE-eligible, facilitated by a doctorally prepared psychologist
  • Monthly case consultation — consultee-focused, non-evaluative, formulation-based
  • ~100 hours/year of board-approved CE built into the work itself
  • Caseload of 12–18 clients, built gradually and calibrated to your developmental stage — not billing targets

Two tracks are available: outpatient psychotherapy (individual, couples, family, group) and intensive outpatient group psychotherapy.

Compensation and Benefits

$51,000–$90,000/year | Base salary and pay-for-performance models available at fellow's election | W-2 salaried

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with employer match; student loan repayment program; HSA; paid time off;
Paid Burnout Time; paid parental leave; licensing exam prep support; flexible scheduling; hybrid options available.

After the Fellowship

Approximately 88% of second-year fellows who seek staff positions at Lorenz find them here. Many of the clinic's current supervisors and clinical leaders are PMF alumni. Fellows who continue within the Lorenz system have access to a formation ladder that extends from supervised practice through supervision, clinical management, training leadership, and advanced clinical stewardship. Alumni who have left have gone on to private practice, community mental health, policy leadership, professional association leadership, and doctoral programs.

Who

We're Looking For
  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, MFT, social work, or closely related field from a regionally accredited program
  • Clinically focused master's-level practicum where individual outpatient psychotherapy was the primary activity — in-person, not primarily telehealth
  • Declared LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC licensure track in Minnesota
  • LICSW-track applicants must hold a current, non-provisional LGSW before start date

Preferred: prior preparation in relational or psychodynamic models, systems thinking, or group relations; bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.

This is a psychotherapy training fellowship. Placements focused primarily on case management, care coordination, or community support do not meet our practicum requirement regardless of quality.

Lorenz Clinic is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Pre-licensed and intermediately licensed clinicians (LGSW, NCC, LAMFT) are especially encouraged to apply.
