We are looking for an experienced In House Counsel to support employment law matters for a growing manufacturing organization in Plymouth, Minnesota. This position will work closely with HR and business leadership to address employee relations concerns, manage legal exposure, and promote compliant practices across multiple jurisdictions. The role is well suited for an attorney who can combine sound legal judgment with practical guidance for complex workplace issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise HR partners and company leaders on employment matters such as performance concerns, disciplinary actions, workplace accommodations, leave issues, and other sensitive personnel situations.
  • Lead or supervise internal workplace investigations, ensuring findings are thoroughly documented, escalated appropriately, and evaluated for legal and business risk.
  • Handle employment-related disputes from early-stage claims through litigation and agency matters, while helping determine effective response strategies.
  • Oversee outside counsel by guiding case strategy, reviewing performance, and monitoring legal spend against budget expectations.
  • Prepare risk-based recommendations on resolutions and settlements by weighing legal exposure, operational impact, and business objectives.
  • Track changes in employment regulations at the federal, state, provincial, and local levels and translate those developments into compliant practices and policy updates.
  • Identify recurring workplace risk patterns through reporting and analysis, then recommend preventive actions to strengthen employment compliance.
  • Partner with HR and leadership on reorganizations, workforce reductions, and other organizational changes to support legally sound decision-making.
  • Draft, revise, and maintain employment-related policies, procedures, templates, and training materials for managers and HR teams.
  • Use matter management, e-billing, and other legal operations tools to improve oversight, reporting, and efficiency across employment matters.
