Resident Engineer

About the Role

We are hiring a hands-on Resident Engineer to support a large enterprise customer in Minneapolis undergoing a migration from Akamai to Cloudflare
. This role is focused on execution, migration, and operational ownership
, not pre-sales or theoretical architecture.

You will be the day-to-day technical owner responsible for translating Akamai configurations into Cloudflare, tuning CDN and security services, and ensuring performance and stability in production.

If you have not worked directly on Akamai environments and real CDN migrations
, this role is not a fit.

• Act as the onsite technical owner for the customer’s CDN and security stack
• Lead and execute Akamai → Cloudflare migrations
  , including feature mapping and validation
• Translate Akamai behaviors, properties, and security rules into Cloudflare equivalents
• Configure, tune, and support:
• CDN caching (edge caching, TTL optimization, cache invalidation)
• WAF rules and false-positive tuning
• DDoS protection
• Bot Management
• TLS / Certificates
• API Security
• Troubleshoot live production issues related to traffic, security, and performance
• Support post-migration stabilization and operational handoff
• Collaborate with customer engineering teams and internal Cloudflare/PS teams
• Use basic Terraform to manage or support Cloudflare configurations
• Write or modify Python scripts for validation, automation, or operational tasks
• Document configurations, migration decisions, and operational procedures clearly

• Proven experience performing or supporting Akamai → Cloudflare migrations
• Edge caching
• TTL behavior
• Cache invalidation
• Traffic routing
• Hands-on experience with:
• WAF
• Bot Management
• Certificates / TLS
• API Security
• Basic working knowledge of Terraform (reading, modifying, and applying configs)
• Python experience for scripting or automation
• Experience working in customer-facing, onsite roles
• Ability to troubleshoot real production issues independently

• Typically 8–12+ years in CDN, web infrastructure, or security engineering roles
• Backgrounds may include:
• Network / Security Engineer (CDN-focused)
• Professional Services Engineer

• Exposure to Cloudflare Workers or edge compute
• Zero Trust or network security familiarity

• Have never worked directly with Akamai
• Have not supported real CDN migrations
• Are a pre-sales or solution-only architect
• Have only theoretical CDN or security knowledge
