Position: Developer Advocate, Growth

We’re looking for a Developer Advocate, Growth for a hybrid position in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Vaisala Xweather brings weather intelligence to decision-makers in every weather-sensitive business. By combining local sensor data with advanced AI predictions, we deliver precise and actionable weather insights. We transform weather challenges into opportunities and build resilience against severe weather and climate change.

Build with weather. Show developers why it matters.

Developers don’t like marketing. We know that. This role isn’t about writing fluffy campaigns or pushing product messaging. It’s about building things developers actually care about, sharing useful code, and meeting the community where it already lives. At Vaisala Xweather, we provide APIs and developer tools that deliver real-time weather, lightning, and environmental intelligence. Developers use our Weather APIs and Maps SDKs to build everything from logistics systems to energy trading tools to outdoor safety platforms.

We’re looking for a developer advocate who can bridge the gap between code and adoption. Someone who can write code, create tutorials, and participate in developer communities while also understanding how technical marketing actually drives product growth. If you enjoy building demos, sharing useful code, and experimenting with how developers discover tools, this role will suit you.

What's My Role? Build things developers actually use
  • Create code recipes, examples, and starter projects using the Xweather API and Maps product
  • Build demo apps that show real-world use cases for weather intelligence
  • Publish tutorials and walkthroughs that developers can actually follow
Show, don’t sell
  • Create technical tutorials, demo videos, blog posts, and developer-focused guides
  • Publish content that developers would bookmark rather than scroll past
  • Focus on solving real problems developers face
Go where developers already are
  • Participate in developer communities such as Git Hub, Reddit, Hacker News, and Dev.to
  • Answer questions and share examples, from a developer to developers
  • Build credibility by contributing useful content first
  • Track adoption and developer behavior across onboarding and docs
  • Run A/B tests on developer onboarding, docs, and landing pages
  • Work with product and marketing on CRO, analytics, and CRM integrations
Be the developer voice internally
  • Work closely with product and sales
  • Bring developer feedback back to the team
  • Help improve developer experience and onboarding
What Will You Bring?

You don’t need to be a full-time software engineer, but you should be comfortable building things.

  • Experience as a developer, technical marketer, or developer advocate
  • Ability to build small projects and code examples
  • Experience with APIs, SDKs, or developer platforms
  • Comfort creating technical tutorials and demos
  • Familiarity with developer communities (Git Hub, Reddit, Dev.to, Hacker News)
  • Knowledge of developer growth metrics and analytics
  • Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) and how AI agents and LLM-based tools consume APIs
  • Practical understanding of how developers are using AI tooling, and how this shapes API discovery and adoption patterns
Nice to Have
  • Experience with mapping, geospatial tools, or data APIs
  • Experience from the weather industry
  • Experience creating technical videos
  • Experience building or documenting MCP-compatible integrations is a plus
This role is NOT
  • Traditional product or growth marketing
  • Campaign management
  • Social media management

This is a
builder role
.

You’ll ship code, tutorials, and experiments that help developers adopt our platform.

What you’ll work on
  • Weather APIs used in thousands of applications worldwide
  • Real-time lightning detection and environmental data streams
  • Maps and visualization tools developers embed in their apps

Weather is becoming one of the most important data layers in modern software. You’ll help developers actually use it.

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE:$95,000 - $120,000 base salary with our annual Xweather STI bonus plan (on top of base compensation). Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally,…
