Data Scientist

Minneapolis VA Healthcare System (MVAHCS) is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Data Scientist to support data, informatics, and technical needs across the Minneapolis VA Research and Development (R&D) Service
. This individual will pay a key role in research data management, electronic health record (EHR) integration, database development, and informatics for investigators and research staff.

• United States Citizenship:

• A. Degree:
  Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
• B. Combination of education and experience:
  Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Specialized

Experience:

1 year equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12 Data Scientist).

Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Skills using tools such as SQL, Python, R, or SAS to manage data from large databases is required.

Selective Placement Factor are defined as a competency/KSAs or special qualification without which a candidate could not perform the duties of a position in a satisfactory manner. Selective factors are applied in addition to minimum qualifications. Applicants who do not meet a selective factor are ineligible for further consideration.

2 years or longer with direct experience in informatics, data analysis, or health information systems. Experience with research data management, EHR systems, or health IT platforms are strongly preferred.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-14. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-13
