Responsibilities
The Assistant Attorney II is a professional position that answers to the Director, Division Chief, or any Senior Attorney, depending on the assignment, and provides a variety of legal services, including civil, traffic, administrative, or criminal law. The incumbent assists the Director of Law in providing legal counsel and representation to the City and its various departments, agencies, boards, officials, and employees.
Responsibilities include legal research, rendering oral and written legal opinions, representing the City at administrative tribunals and before municipal and state courts, negotiating pleas and settlements, drafting memoranda, pleadings, briefs, contracts, ordinances, resolutions, legislation proposals, leases, deeds, purchase agreements, and administrative regulations and policies on behalf of the City.
Incumbent is expected to stay informed of municipal, criminal, and related fields of law and fulfill all Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
Minimum Qualifications- L.L.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school in good standing with the Ohio Bar Association, AND at least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration may substitute for one year of the above experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special RequirementsMust be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job‑related medical examination—including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment.
