This Role

The Director of Human Factors Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership for the human factors function, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory alignment, and scalable strategy. This role is responsible for advancing the discipline across the organization by driving best practices, strengthening quality standards, and optimizing resource deployment, and cultivating high performing teams through mentorship and coaching.

As a senior leader, the Director sets the vision for human factors strategy across the product lifecycle, aligns execution with business objectives, and ensures compliance within regulated environments. This individual plays a critical role in client engagement and business development, serving as an executive-level partner to clients while contributing to organizational strategy and long‑term growth.

This position requires a balance of deep technical expertise, operational discipline, people leadership, and commercial acumen.

What You Will Do
  • Provides strategic oversight and technical direction for human factors activities across the full product lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, methodologies, and process consistency within the human factors function.
  • Lead hiring, coaching, mentorship, performance management, and career development of the human factors team.
  • Develop and execute short‑and long‑term functional strategies aligned with regulatory requirements and business goals.
  • Manage departmental budgeting, workload forecasting, resource allocation, and utilization to ensure operational efficiency
  • Foster strong client relationships at both the project and executive levels to promote client retention and boost prospective business opportunities
  • Partner with senior leadership to define program strategies, objectives, and cross‑functional alignment.
  • Support business development through proposal review, scoping, and client presentations
  • Represent human factors capabilities in client meetings, strategic planning discussions, and commercial engagements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, scalability, and delivery performance.
Qualifications

Required skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering or related discipline.
  • 8–12 years of relevant work experience, including 3–5 years in a functional leadership role.
  • Advanced understanding of medical device and healthcare regulatory frameworks
  • Demonstrated expertise in people management, including hiring, performance management, corrective action, and compensation administration.
  • Strong leadership capabilities including change management, strategic thinking, and influencing.
  • Experience supporting business development or revenue‑generating client engagements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate complex technical and business concepts to a multi‑disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Experience building scalable teams and ensuring consistent, high‑quality deliverables.
  • Proven ability to achieve departmental objectives through effective resource management.
Preferred
  • Experience leading human factors initiatives within Med Tech, life sciences, or regulated product development environments.
  • Experience partnering with executive‑level clients and internal leadership teams.
  • Experience in medtech consulting environments.
Travel

Some travel may be required.
