Compliance Director, Employee Benefits (EB)

We are looking to add a Compliance Director to our Employee Benefits team. This role will provide strategic compliance guidance, serve as a business development resource, respond to client inquiries, create and deliver educational presentations, develop educational tools, lead the Compliance Committee, and manage vendor relationships.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide strategic compliance guidance on federal and state laws including IRS, ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and the firm’s internal policies, ensuring effective customer service and mitigating corporate risk.
- Serve as a business development resource representing Holmes Murphy’s compliance philosophy in prospect meetings and presentations.
- Respond directly to client inquiries and consult on mitigating client risk without providing legal advice.
- Create and deliver educational presentations for clients and employees through webinars, seminars, and live events annually.
- Develop and maintain client‑facing written educational tools for health and welfare benefit compliance.
- Enhance the company’s value proposition by implementing best‑in‑class tools and resources deployable to clients.
- Lead the Compliance Committee comprised of various Employee Benefits roles.
- Identify and develop relationships with compliance vendors, handling complex or escalated vendor issues.
- Lead and motivate the team by:
- Ensuring right talent is in the right role, including hiring and terminating employees.
- Coaching and counseling team members on workflow, processes, customer service and client consulting.
- Providing performance feedback that defines future goals and holds employees accountable.
- Fostering a high‑performance culture with career development and advancement.
- Managing timesheets, PTO/RTO requests, and approving timesheets.
- Participating in compensation decisions for team members, as applicable.
- Facilitate regular meetings to foster teamwork.
- Attend team and enterprise meetings, plus internal and external leadership training.
- Coordinate initial and ongoing training with Growth & Development on processes and procedures.
- Provide backup assistance for team members as needed.
- Education:
High school diploma; college degree preferred. - Experience:
Minimum 7+ years in ERISA and Employee Benefits compliance. - Licensing: JD with active state bar license. Prior carrier or broker agency and/or Labor & Employment Law experience a plus.

Strong industry knowledge and ability to apply insurance principles to deliver client experiences; skilled in risk management and problem solving.
