Under the general direction of a Field Maintenance Operations Manager, Duty Managers oversee and direct the daily and seasonal maintenance duties for the field maintenance department, including frontline contact with various stakeholders for operations at the Minneapolis St.

Paul International Airport.

Duty Managers supervise and direct the work of assigned staff, assign duties and hours of work, and delegate responsibilities to subordinates. They are responsible for the safety of employees and equipment in the performance of all duties.

Duty Managers are responsible for the management and maintenance of airside and landside areas such as runways, taxiways, ramp apron areas, roadways, parking and turf areas, walks, drainage systems, fences, signs, buildings, and other public facing areas. They perform inspections and prepare required reports.

Duty Managers assist the Field Maintenance Operations Managers in the performance of all designated job functions and, in the absence of the manager, may assume full responsibility for completion of tasks. Duty Managers are subject to call‑in in the event of any emergency conditions, irregular operations, and snow and ice control operations. They collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to meet customer needs and uphold MAC’s Purpose and Values.

Job Duties
  • Integrate MAC's Mission, Values, and Strategic Goals into areas of responsibility and promote a respectful and inclusive workplace that reflects these principles.
  • Supervise, direct, and assign the work schedules and activities of assigned staff to ensure service and operational standards are met.
  • Create and maintain a productive, inclusive, and rewarding work environment that encourages employee engagement and performance.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with employees to communicate work plans, address issues, and provide other appropriate information.
  • Support staff development through timely performance feedback, coaching, and recognition of employee achievements.
  • Facilitate effective working relationships among department employees to support collaboration and operational success.
  • Participate in the hiring, reassignment, promotion, recognition, discipline, suspension, and termination processes for assigned employees in coordination with department leadership and the Human Resources Department.
  • Ensure compliance with MAC’s Human Resources and departmental policies and supervise assigned staff in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Communicate clear performance expectations and standards to employees.
  • Complete employee probationary and annual performance recaps and conduct performance review discussions.
Snow and Ice Removal
  • Coordinate and direct runway snow removal operations and ensure safety of all personnel.
  • Determine crew complement and initiate crew call‑backs in coordination with department leadership.
  • Assign personnel to equipment as appropriate.
  • In coordination with the Snow Control Center, determine method of aircraft movement area snow removal operations and closures and determine appropriate application of materials and chemicals.
  • Monitor, report, and eliminate unsafe conditions in accordance with Snow Control Center guidance.
  • Supervise Working Forepersons in their oversight of airside and landside snow removal operations.
  • Maintain the knowledge and ability to operate all equipment in the Field Maintenance snow removal fleet.
Bituminous and Concrete Repair
  • Coordinate bituminous, concrete, and masonry repairs and preventive maintenance on runways, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, public roadways, parking facilities and sidewalks.
  • Determine method of pavement maintenance/repair and determine material use in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Determine the need for aircraft movement area closures and communicate with Integrated Operations.
