Job Summary

The Tractor Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the service shop. This includes assigning and prioritizing repair work, supervising and coaching technicians, and ensuring preventative maintenance and repairs are completed on schedule. The Shop Manager promotes a safe working environment, manages shop workflow efficiently, and supports cost‑effective operations while providing excellent internal and external customer service.

Essential Job Functions
  • Schedule, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Provide hands‑on training and mentoring to technicians and helpers.
  • Prepare accurate service reports and maintain required documentation.
  • Ensure timely completion of repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Control and manage repair job costs.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Enforce and model compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Travel to remote locations for vehicle evaluations or repairs as needed.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and understand computerized diagnostic systems.
Secondary Job Functions
  • Serve as a representative of the Company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Koch community, customers and with the public.
  • Cross training as required.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Working Conditions

Temperature‑controlled shop with frequent open doors.

Exposure to loud machine noise and strong maintenance fluid odors.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position provides day‑to‑day leadership for direct reports. Team size and reporting relationships may change as business needs evolve.

  • Lead, develop, and support direct reports, setting clear expectations, providing consistent feedback, and ensuring employees understand their role in meeting business needs.
  • Coach employees to build capability, address performance concerns promptly, and document conversations when expectations are not met.
  • Hold regular one‑on‑one check‑ins to stay aligned on workload, priorities, and development needs.
  • Guide employees through performance reviews, goal setting, and ongoing progress updates throughout the year.
  • Reinforce company values through everyday decisions and communication.
  • Ensure employees follow all policies, safety requirements, and operational standards.
  • Maintain a fair and respectful work environment, take concerns seriously, and escalatory issues when needed.
  • Build trust by being accessible, following through, and supporting employees through change.
Qualifications Required

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of tractor maintenance experience.
  • 2 years of supervisory or training experience.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Heavy Duty Truck Technology or related field.
  • 5+ years of supervisory or training experience.
  • 2+ years of transportation industry experience.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of tractor maintenance practices and repair standards.
  • Proficient in operating diagnostic equipment and interpreting results.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Professional demeanor and conduct in all business interactions.
  • Ability to build and maintain cooperative working relationships across the organization.
  • Working knowledge of CAT machine components and systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for the remaining time.
  • Sufficient hearing to detect safety alarms and verbal communications in a loud environment.
  • Sufficient vision, with or without corrective lenses, to read technical documents, operate equipment, and perform detailed work.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and climb into semi‑truck cabs, and trailers.
  • Ability to meet all company safety requirements.
