Assistant Manager Of Street Operations

We are the Metropolitan Council, the regional government for the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. We plan 30 years ahead for the future of the metropolitan area and provide regional transportation, wastewater, and housing services. Metro Transit is one of the country's largest transit systems, employs more than 3,000 people, and provides an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains, as well as resources for those who carpool, vanpool, walk, or bike in the Twin Cities.

How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Assistant Manager of Street Operations is responsible for supervising the daily activities and overall performance of District Supervisors within District Street ensuring timely and safe delivery of bus transit services within the region. This posting will be used to create an eligible list for eight (8) months.

Provide daily direction and counsel to District Supervisors; assign tasks and projects. Participate in establishing rules, standards, guidelines, and policies governing quality and quantity of work. Recruit, select, develop, counsel, discipline, and evaluate performance of employees. Monitor District Supervisors use of daily supervisor log (DSL), operating condition reports (OCR), Transit Master reports, and manage on time performance. Meet and negotiate with outside agencies as well as Metro Transit departments to plan long term projects, events, and service disruptions.

Assist in organizing high profile special events, including the Minnesota State Fair, parades, etc. Assist in organizing and operational planning support for present and future Bus Rapid Transit lines. Provide oversight of detour and passenger service information notices. Analyze, assign, monitor resolution of, and respond to customer service complaints. Partner with internal departments, Service Development, and Engineering & Facilities to develop and implement service changes, sector studies, and transit center designs.

Coordinate scheduling of District Supervisors to maintain appropriate levels of coverage for bus transit services and substitutes for District Supervisors as needed. Represent the Street Operations department at service committee meetings and external public meetings. Accept both internal and external requests for service. Evaluate and create work orders for unscheduled bus service. Assist in planning department goals and objectives. Write routine reports, read and comment on engineering plans, and maintain proper correspondence.

Act on behalf of the manager in their absence. Maintain and update Equipment inventory (Laptops, Radios, phones, Vans). Work on other duties as assigned.

Any of the following combinations of progressive, responsible experience in transit, transportation, public safety, or closely related field and completed education in Business Administration or closely related field with one (1) year of verifiable lead/supervisory experience:
High school diploma/GED and eight (8) years of experience with one (1) year of verifiable lead/supervisory experience. Associate's degree and six (6) years of experience with one (1) year of verifiable lead/supervisory experience. Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience with one (1) year of verifiable lead/supervisory experience. Metropolitan Council Employees Only. Successful completion of any one of the following three Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience.

You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application. Only completion of one of the three programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.
