A role in Construction means leading the execution of store and distribution center projects. From large program rollouts to unique special projects, or large ground-up construction, you’ll help manage the scope, schedule, and budget for all Target construction projects, including adhering to the project timeline, coordinating and overseeing the onsite construction process and turnover. You’ll keep all of the players and partners aligned with effective communication between vendors, general contractors, field leadership and project teams.
AboutThe Role
As a Design Project Manager within the Construction organization, you will play a pivotal role in driving design-focused initiatives that shape the physical experience of our stores. This unique position bridges the strategic vision of Store Design with the executional rigor of Construction, ensuring that design intent is realized across a diverse portfolio of projects—from new stores and remodels to innovation pilots and other concepts.
You will lead cross-functional programs that integrate architectural, engineering, and brand elements, translating business strategies into scalable design solutions. Your work will directly influence the evolution of our store environments, supporting Target’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and guest experience.
Core Responsibilities- Lead complex, multi-disciplinary design projects from concept to execution, ensuring alignment with business goals, timelines, and budgets.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Store Design, Real Estate, and Property Management, andother internal teams.
- Translate program scope and design intent into actionable plans, balancing aesthetics, functionality, and constructability.
- Champion design excellence and consistency across all store formats and initiatives.
- Manage program-level schedules, risks, change and communications, ensuring transparency and accountability across stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance collaboration between design and construction teams.
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and sustainability practices to inform design strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in program or project management within retail design, architecture, or construction.
- Strong understanding of commercial building design and construction processes.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage large-scale programs.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in design and project management tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Smartsheet, MS Project).
