Part-Time Machinist – Own the Machine Shop
WR Medical is a small medical device manufacturer producing Class II medical devices since 1962. We’re looking for a Part-Time Machinist to operate our machine shop and precisely manufacture subcomponents in a regulated environment. The machine shop includes 12 large manual machines and a brand-new Haas VF2 CNC Mill.
This role would be perfect for someone semi-retired, furthering their education, or in need of flexible hours.
What Makes This Role Different- You fully own the machine shop — scheduling work, setting up jobs, maintaining organization, and driving efficiency
- You’ll operate a diverse mix of equipment (manual mills/lathes + new CNC)
- Direct collaboration with engineering on process improvements
- High independence in a small-team environment
If you enjoy being the go-to machining expert and taking pride in “your” shop, this role is built for you.
What You’ll Do- Independently run the machine shop, including job setup, workflow management, cleanliness, and safety
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision medical-device components
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, work instructions, and routings
- Perform in-process inspections using calibrated tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, comparators)
- Document production results and complete electronic production orders
- Maintain compliance with GMP, ISO 13485, and FDA quality system requirements
- Support engineering-led machining process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of machining experience (manual machining, mill/lathe operation, precision part manufacturing)
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and GD&T
- Experience using measurement tools for dimensional inspection
- Strong attention to detail and good documentation practices
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own workload
- CNC experience
- Experience machining acetal and aluminum
- Familiarity with GMP or regulated manufacturing environments
Physical Requirements
- Part-time: approximately 8–20 hours per week, flexible weekdays between 7:30am–4:30pm
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Manual dexterity to safely operate machining equipment
