General Function

The Production Technician is responsible for the set‑up, operation, and basic maintenance of equipment within the assigned area for work tasks in surface or finish portions of lab production.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of laboratory production within the assigned area, including proper, efficient, and productive use of Lensometer instrument for lens product inspection per basic lens power requirements.
  • Maintain equipment, including wheel and motor/spindle changes.
  • Interpret “Special Rx’s” and, with assistance from the supervisor, translate Rx requirements into finished products.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining and managing shop supply inventories.
  • Troubleshoot production problems that lead to spoilage or slowdowns, advise supervisor of potential issues and offer solutions.
  • Prepare all solutions for the wash process when applicable and ensure daily supplies are stocked.
  • Interpret Rx work tickets and perform production operations on specified equipment following established procedures.
  • Perform basic or routine maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and advise supervisor on remedies.
  • Specific tasks include: lens wash & surface‑cosmetic inspection; tool cutting and replacement; equipment set‑up for daily production in accordance with UPS; daily, weekly, quarterly calibration of equipment and maintenance of calibration logs.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the lab to ensure understanding and proper application of company policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintain work area and common areas in a neat, clean, and organized condition.
  • Follow all company and laboratory policies and procedures, and assure compliance with attendance and safety rules and regulations while maintaining confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Assist others as needed to keep workloads balanced, cooperate with co‑workers, and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Provide training, direction, and technical guidance for less experienced employees; attend in‑house or sponsored training meetings when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires exposure to one or more hazardous substances/chemicals and requires safety training.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of laboratory work experience.
  • Ability to multi‑task, orient to detail, and operate in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Basic high school level math skills required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job, including close vision and color vision.

Pay Range: $19.61 – $29.60 per hour.
