Manufacturing Engineer, CAD/ AutoCAD/ Mechanical Design, Engineering Design & Technologists
We are partnering with a growing Minnesota manufacturer of custom engine exhaust systems for critical environments. Their company employs 130 people, up from 25 three years ago, is privately held, profitable, and recently added a second facility to support continued growth. As the business scales and adds new product lines, the people who turn engineering intent into clean, buildable drawings are the ones who keep the floor moving.
The RoleYou will prepare the detailed working drawings and 3D models that tell the manufacturing floor exactly what to build. You translate engineering concepts into accurate models, structure assemblies so they mirror how the product is actually made, and stay close enough to production to catch problems before they reach the floor. This is hands‑on design work with a direct line of sight to what gets fabricated.
WhatYou Will Do
- Develop detailed drawings and specifications for parts, assemblies, production fixtures, and shipping arrangements in Solid Works
- Build 3D models of parts and assemblies, and structure assemblies to follow and document the manufacturing process
- Create drawings that completely and accurately capture the functional relationships between parts
- Revise designs to correct operating deficiencies and resolve production problems
- Review sketches, drawings, and related data to assess factors affecting component design
- Work directly with engineers, manufacturing engineering, production staff, and customers to resolve design and production issues
- Prepare technical illustrations for manuals and publications
- Operate in compliance with the company's safety and quality standards
- Associate's degree in Computer Aided Design, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of drafting and design experience
- Strong Solid Works skills across modeling, sheet metal, assemblies, and drawing creation
- Working knowledge of steel fabrication: laser cutting, forming, and welding
- Understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, ANSI documentation standards, and AWS welding standards
- Strong technical reading, math, and problem-solving. You reason through a drawing and catch what does not add up
- Clear communication and candor. The culture is polite, but people are expected to raise problems early.
- Healthcare: health, dental, and vision
- Life insurance
- Paid time off
Screening call with recruiter to assess qualifications, followed by two interviews with the employer (culture fit and technical panel) and a background check.
