Position OverviewThe Production & Planner Lead is responsible for coordinating hardware production activities, scheduling work, managing material flow information, and ensuring hardware builds move smoothly from engineering through assembly and test. This role blends production planning, documentation ownership, and hands‑on production floor support. In a small‑company environment, this person wears multiple hats and is central to keeping builds efficient, accurate, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling- Develop and maintain daily/weekly production schedules for hardware assemblies, subassemblies, wiring, and mechanical builds.
- Prioritize jobs based on customer requirements, engineering readiness, and material availability.
- Adjust schedules to address engineering changes (ECOs), workflow constraints, or testing delays.
- Release accurate work orders with correct part numbers, documentation, and revisions.
- Monitor material status and communicate shortages or constraints (without owning purchasing).
- Create, update, and maintain detailed hardware work instructions (assembly, wiring, torque specs, integration steps, etc.).
- Ensure work instructions reflect the current design and engineering updates.
- Collaborate with engineering to clarify build steps and integrate design‑for‑manufacturing feedback.
- Maintain document control for work instructions, travelers, and build packets. (Unless falls on CM)
- Train technicians on updated work instructions and build processes.
- Work closely with engineering, technicians, shipping/receiving, and operations.
- Communicate build status, material constraints, and schedule changes across departments.
- Assign daily tasks and balance workload across assembly technicians.
- Step in to assist with hands‑on hardware assembly, mechanical builds, or troubleshooting when needed.
- Ensure proper handling of hardware.
- Encourage cross‑training and support skill development within the team.
- Track build progress, material usage, labor data, and job packet completeness.
- Identify bottlenecks in workflows or processes and recommend improvements.
- Support inventory accuracy by communicating consumption and build requirements to appropriate teams.
- Help standardize processes as the company grows and scales.
- 5 years of experience in hardware manufacturing, avionics, aerospace, electronics, or mechanical assembly.
- Strong understanding of hardware build processes, production planning, and material flow.
- Ability to write clear, detailed work instructions for hardware assembly.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, mechanical diagrams, BOMs, and wiring schematics.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems for planning and scheduling.
- Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking abilities.
- Experience in avionics or aerospace hardware production.
- Understanding mechanical hardware practices, torque tools, and build documentation.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, or workflow/process improvement.
- Prior leadership or team lead experience in a production environment.
- Bachelor's Degree

Compensation Salary Range$76,000 – $90,000 annually Depending on experience
