CNC Lathe Operator (1st Shift)
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC lathe operator to advance into high-level CNC machining, including learning setups and programming. You will operate CNC lathes and mills, receive hands-on training on advanced equipment, and develop skills in measurements and blueprint reading while working on a variety of machining projects on a consistent first-shift schedule.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC lathes safely and efficiently on a daily basis.
- Learn and perform basic to intermediate machine setups under guidance.
- Assist in programming CNC equipment as training progresses.
- Operate CNC mills as needed to support production requirements.
- Work with specific CNC equipment, including Mori Seiki lathes and other shop machinery.
- Read and interpret blueprints to produce accurate parts to specification.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers and other precision instruments to verify part dimensions.
- Monitor machine operations, identify issues, and communicate any problems to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with shop standards.
- Follow all safety procedures and best practices while operating machinery and handling materials.
Essential Skills
- Previous CNC lathe operating experience.
- Ability to operate CNC machinery in a production environment.
- Basic understanding of machining processes and shop practices.
- Willingness and ability to learn machine setups and programming.
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints, or strong interest in learning this skill.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools such as calipers.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, quality parts.
- Reliability in working a 1st shift schedule (Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating CNC mills in addition to lathes.
- Familiarity with Mori Seiki lathes or similar CNC equipment.
- Hands-on experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in long-term growth into advanced CNC setups and programming.

Work Environment
This position is based in a small, older machine shop that can be somewhat dark and greasy, reflecting a traditional, hands-on machining environment. You will work on 1st shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., operating CNC lathes, CNC mills, and equipment such as Mori Seiki lathes. The setting is practical and production-focused, with frequent use of precision measuring tools, blueprints, and standard machining equipment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
