Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) in partnership with our community provides a comfortable and caring home‑away‑from‑home that supports keeping families together and reduces stress during a child’s serious illness or injury. RMHC-UM operates five locations in Minnesota—four in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth—and provides complimentary lodging, meals and support to thousands of families every year.
Job SummaryThe Development Coordinator, one of two, will provide essential tasks related to fundraising, stewardship, volunteerism, community engagement, and administrative support for RMHC‑UM. Specifically, the incumbent is a critical member of the Development Team and offers important backing for Signature Events and special campaigns, which alone raise more than $1.2 million in support of families. The incumbent will represent the organization via in‑person, verbal and written communications.
Engagement with staff across various departments along with volunteers and the general public is an exciting component of the position. In addition to supporting core fundraising tasks and seeing projects through, the Development Coordinator serves as a key lead regarding administrative needs, the department’s inventory, and soliciting gifts of various types while also having some responsibility to support the front desk.
The Development Coordinator brings significant energy and value related to the RMHC‑UM signature events, spending core functions on systematically building and staging silent auctions online and in‑person, ensuring a successful donor fulfilment process, coordinating event details such as guest registration and communications, event logistics, organization, and packing/unpacking.
- Provide lead support for Signature Events—Golf Classic, Brew Love, Brew Love North, RBC Race for the Kids, and Gala.
- Silent auction preparation including resourceful use of items in inventory and solicitation of items/experiences/services.
- Silent auction execution, drafting item sales descriptions, ensuring both online/photo and in‑person displays are accurate and effective.
- Leading auction wrap‑up, distribution of purchased packages, and fulfilment of sales through post‑auction stewardship.
- Communications with event participants, vendors, and sponsors.
- Provide support for registration and checkout at events.
- Management of event volunteers leading up to, day‑of and for event wrap up: specifically leading the organization of auction and event supply load in and load out.
- Event packing and unpacking.
- Steward relationships and manage fundraising tasks by working in various platforms, systems and databases.
- One Cause, our online auction/ticketing software.
- Raisers Edge, our donor database.
- Race Roster, our Peer‑to‑Peer/RBC Race for the Kids Platform.
- Volunteer Hub, our volunteer database.
- Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, etc.
- Maintain Development storage spaces; organize and track on‑ and off‑site inventory.
- Provide communication and stewardship to donors of all levels and types.
- Provide support for special campaigns and third‑party fundraisers.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to accept and process monetary and in‑kind contributions, collaborate in processing the intake of donations.
- Provide efficient and effective communication to achieve cross‑departmental synergy; department examples include Finance, Volunteer, Family Services, Facilities.
- Update donor information in the database.
- Support front desk coverage, answering phones, opening and sorting mail, greeting guests, and leading tours.
- Coordinate and lead volunteers through execution of projects, community efforts and special events.
- Event support volunteers.
- Auction solicitation and preparation volunteers.
- Coordinate and manage administrative volunteers.
