Non-Profit & Social Impact
Volunteer / Humanitarian, Non-Profit / Outreach, Community Health
Gifts for Seniors strives to alleviate the devastating adverse health impacts of loneliness and social isolation for over 8,000 older adults. Our inclusive programs provide life-affirming contact and access to community resources for living and aging well. In our changing social structure, loneliness among older adults has become excessively prevalent, leading to greater risks to health and wellbeing. The U.S. Surgeon General has declared loneliness as a new public health epidemic.
This crisis will be exacerbated by the permanent demographic shift of having more older adults than school‑aged children in our communities. Ageism, poverty, and lack of digital skills are significant barriers to digital adoption for older adults. Tech for Seniors assists those struggling to remain connected to others with a four‑pronged approach – devices, affordable internet, digital literacy education, and ongoing 1‑on‑1 support.
Since 2020, the program has provided tablets for those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one. However, access to devices and affordable internet alone are not enough to ensure full adoption for successful online engagement.
