Mental health touches all of us. Whether you live with a mental health condition, love someone who does, work in the field, or simply believe everyone deserves access to support and understanding, your perspective matters.
NAMI Hennepin County is seeking passionate community members to join our Board of Directors and help shape the future of mental health advocacy, education, and support in Hennepin County.
You do not need previous board experience
—just a willingness to contribute, collaborate, and make a difference.
- Have lived experience with mental illness or recovery.
- Are family members, caregivers, or close supporters of someone with a mental health condition.
- Believe mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health.
- Want to advocate for stronger mental health services and reduce stigma.
- Bring diverse backgrounds, cultures, professions, and life experiences.
- Are interested in growing as community leaders while giving back.
As a board member, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Help shape the direction of a respected nonprofit organization.
- Advocate for mental health in your community.
- Build leadership and nonprofit governance experience.
- Expand your professional network.
- Work alongside passionate volunteers, community leaders, and mental health advocates.

CommitmentBoard members typically:
- Attend one board meeting each month. (90min)
Additionally, we ask board members to participate in the below activities as it fits within their schedule. This could be 1-2 hours a month, or more if a large project/event is going on.
- Serve on at least one committee.
- Support fundraising and community outreach.
- Act as ambassadors for mental health awareness in our community.
Together, we can create a community where everyone affected by mental illness has hope, support, and a voice.
