About Black Collective Foundation MNAs Minnesota’s first Black community foundation and a national pioneer in culturally specific philanthropy, the Black Collective Foundation MN invests boldly in organizations, leaders, systems, and ideas that advance a more just Minnesota where Black people and all people can thrive with dignity, power, and prosperity.
One of the Foundation’s signature initiatives,
MN LEAD (Minnesota Legal Education, Advocacy and Defense), was created to strengthen nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and systems change leaders as they navigate an increasingly complex legal, political, and funding environment.
This is an opportunity to lead an established statewide initiative at a pivotal moment.
MN LEAD is not a startup. The vision is established, trusted partnerships already exist, and meaningful work is underway. The next Director will help transform that momentum into measurable impact by strengthening partnerships, coordinating statewide efforts, and ensuring organizations have access to the resources, expertise, and support they need to thrive.
Working closely with the Foundation’s President & CEO and a highly collaborative team, the Director will build relationships across nonprofit, philanthropic, legal, government, and community organizations while leading the day-to-day implementation of this important initiative.

What You’ll DoAs Director of MN LEAD, you will:
- Lead the implementation and continued evolution of MN LEAD’s strategic priorities
- Translate organizational vision into measurable work plans and outcomes
- Build and strengthen partnerships across nonprofit, philanthropic, legal, government, and community organizations
- Represent MN LEAD with statewide and national partners
- Lead trainings, convenings, and leadership development opportunities
- Connect organizations with trusted legal, policy, communications, and technical experts
- Develop systems for implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement
- Monitor emerging legal, policy, and sector developments to ensure timely support for partner organizations
- Collaborate across the Foundation on strategic initiatives, grant reporting, and organizational planning
Successful candidates will bring:
- Experience leading complex programs, initiatives, or cross-functional projects
- Strong relationship-building and coalition-development skills
- Ability to translate strategy into measurable action
- Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience working across multiple organizations or sectors
- Strong judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to work independently
- Commitment to racial equity, community impact, and strengthening Minnesota’s nonprofit sector
Candidates do not need to meet every qualification to be considered. We value transferable skills, diverse experiences, and demonstrated leadership.
Additional Requirements- Ability to participate in regular in-person meetings (currently Tuesdays)
- Availability for occasional evening and community events
- $90,000–$100,000 annual salary
- Hybrid work environment
