ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Minnesota Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) is an association of nonprofit community development organizations and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) committed to expanding the wealth and resources of communities through housing opportunities and economic development initiatives.

MCCD’s mission to collectively advance racial and economic justice by leveraging and stewarding community development resources can only be achieved by addressing the harms and inequities that have shaped housing and economic development policies at every level of government. These policies have prevented Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and other communities from achieving housing stability, accessing capital, and building generational wealth.

MCCD is seeking a part-time, temporary Policy & Advocacy Fellow to support the organization's policy and advocacy efforts for the 2027 Minnesota legislative session. This fellowship is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student or emerging policy professional interested in housing policy, economic development, grassroots advocacy, and nonprofit public policy work.

Working with the Policy Team, the fellow will assist with legislative advocacy, coalition engagement, policy events, legislative hearing support, and communications while gaining firsthand experience in Minnesota's policy making process. The fellow will report to the Director of Policy and work closely with MCCD’s policy team, member organizations, coalition partners, and elected officials to help advance policies that promote racial and economic justice.

This is a hybrid position, with flexible scheduling. The fellow will be expected to work from MCCD’s office or the Minnesota State Capitol approximately 8-10 hours a week.

• Schedule meetings with members of the Minnesota Legislature, including housing, commerce, and small business committee members.
• Assist with planning and logistics for MCCD member meetings.
• Provide administrative and logistical support for advocacy trainings and policy events.
• Attend legislative committee hearings and provide on-site support, including taking photos, assisting testifiers, and tracking hearing activity.
• Support MCCD's state and federal advocacy efforts by assisting with advocacy meetings and other policy-related activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Attend and support meetings with coalition partners
• Take meeting notes, track action items, and assist staff with coalition follow-up.
• Build relationships with coalition partners and member organizations while learning about collaborative advocacy strategies.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Assist with social media content creation to highlight MCCD's policy priorities, legislative updates, and advocacy events.
• Support communications related to policy campaigns and member engagement through blog posts, educational materials, and action alerts.
• Capture photos and content during legislative events and coalition meetings for use across MCCD communications.
• Other duties as assigned.

• A strong personal commitment to racial and economic justice and an interest in housing policy and economic community development.
• Educational focus in public policy, government, nonprofit advocacy, political science, urban planning, or related fields.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, members, and community partners.
• Comfortable attending meetings and representing MCCD in professional settings.
• Experience with social media or content creation is a plus.
• Reliable transportation is preferred, as the position will include travel throughout the Twin Cities metro area, including the Minnesota State Capitol during the legislative session.
