Position Purpose

The Program & Site Coordinator splits their time between supporting core Joyce Uptown Foodshelf (JUFS) operations and directly managing a new on-site elementary school food shelf. Approximately 60% of the role is dedicated to assisting with general JUFS program components—including food rescue, community deliveries, food drives, inventory management, and volunteer support. The remaining 40% of the role is focused on coordinating the operations, volunteer engagement, and community outreach for a new school-based food shelf serving a largely Spanish-speaking community.

Key Responsibilities School Food Shelf Coordination (40% of time)
  • Assist with program planning and implementation in the time leading up to the opening of this resource.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the new food shelf, ensuring a welcoming, dignified, and barrier-free environment for students and families through a “virtual choice” model.
  • Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) communication, customer service, and community outreach to effectively support and connect with largely Spanish-speaking families.
  • Coordinate on-site logistics, including space organization, inventory stocking, and delivery schedules specifically for the school site.
  • Lead, train, and support volunteers to staff the school food shelf, ensuring compliance with food bank and partner regulations.
  • Partner with on-site school officials to ensure consistency of services and to problem solve.
Core JUFS Program & Inventory Support (60% of time)
  • Assist with the Food Rescue Program while maintaining strong relationships with food rescue partners and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with businesses and organizations hosting food drives or fundraisers.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, sorting, and safely storing food orders from partner organizations.
  • Ensure an appropriate variety and quantity of food and personal care items are in stock.
  • Maintain strict compliance with food bank, USDA, and TEFAP requirements across operations.
  • Support general volunteer operations, including scheduling, training, and providing tours to community partners.
  • Perform day-to-day operational duties such as answering phones, greeting clients and donors, and assisting with community events.
Team Collaboration
  • Share knowledge and ideas, collaborate on problem-solving, communicate constructively, and adhere to core values to welcome everyone to JUFS without barriers or judgment.
Qualifications
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is strongly preferred (ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking families and partners).
  • Authorization for employment in the U.S.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in fast pace environments.
  • Solid customer service, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to a changing, multi-site environment.
  • Physical capability to lift at least 30 lbs. Regular lifting, moving, and loading of food inventory is a core requirement of this position.
  • Note:

A background check and driving record check are required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skill in working with and supporting volunteers.
  • Experience with community outreach, community organizing, and/or working within school environments.
  • Experience and comfort working with low-income and indigent populations.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for travel between sites.
