Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC) seeks a full-time Associate or Preventive Conservator to join our team; a retirement creates an opportunity for a collections care professional to apply their skills and experience to this vital work. MACC is a leader in the field of Preventive Conservation: we are committed to making conservation information accessible, to empowering individuals to care for their collections, and to the impact we see in our communities.

This position will work closely with the Head of Preventive Conservation to present and develop workshops; to consult on collections care, preservation planning, and disaster preparedness; to collaborate on repatriation and research projects; to conduct General Preservation Assessments; and to develop technical leaflets. The position works together with all MACC Conservators and with collections caretakers across the region, and requires some travel.

The position provides a starting annual salary range of $$65,000 - $75,000 along with generous benefits including employer-paid medical, dental, 403B contributions, vacation and sick time, AIC membership, professional development, and assistance in relocation expenses. Advancements in responsibilities, title, and salary are commensurate with experience.

MACC is an independent, non-profit, regional center providing comprehensive services in Paintings, Objects, Paper, Textiles, and Preventive Conservation. The staff is collaborative, very collegial, and works innovatively with curatorial and collection professionals at hundreds of non-profit organizations including fine art museums, historical societies, universities, tribes, cultural centers, governments, libraries, archives, and the public. MACC facilities are located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in art conservation or equivalent
  • Demonstrated interest in preventive conservation
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively with professionals and community members from a range of backgrounds
  • Experience in public presentations and education

You may not have all of the credentials listed above, but we still encourage you to apply if your background experience can lead to success in this position. A valid driver’s license is required. The position is open to US citizens and others with legal eligibility to work in the US. Note that this position does not include bench work.
