Program Coordinator - Community, Youth & Food Programming Summary

Appetite For Change (AFC) is a nonprofit organization in North Minneapolis whose mission is to use food as a tool to build health, wealth, and social change. Everything we do is grounded in the community we serve. The Community Cooks program facilitator is responsible for facilitating Community Cooks Workshops, supervising and mentoring youth interns, building relationships with community members, supporting weekly meal box programming, representing AFC at community events, and creating communications materials for the program.
AFC serves the North Minneapolis community. The ideal candidate is someone with experience in community-centered work, genuine knowledge of and connection to North Minneapolis, and/or demonstrated experience working with youth and families in Black communities. Individuals with lived experience in North Minneapolis and surrounding communities, and candidates who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time position, primarily working Monday through Friday, with some weekends based on need. This person works an average of 40 hours per week. The work is in-person and takes place during the day, with both early morning and evening hours, as well as occasional weekends. Travel between different sites in North Minneapolis and throughout the metro area in general is required.

Reports To: Community Cooks Program Manager

Supervises: Youth Participants assigned to the Community Cooks Work Center

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Community Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Build and maintain genuine relationships with program participants, youth, families, and community partners

  • Attend and represent AFC at community events, tabling opportunities, and partner organization gatherings

  • Recruit participants for workshops and programs through outreach, flyers, and social media

  • Serve as a welcoming, consistent presence that reflects AFC’s values and the community it serves

  • Connect prospective participants and organizations to Community Cooks programs

Youth Program Facilitation & Supervision
  • Supervise and mentor youth program participants assigned to the Community Cooks Work Center, including at Workshops and Meal Box programming

  • Lead youth through Work Center onboarding and ongoing training opportunities

  • Create and maintain a structured, engaging environment for youth interns and volunteers

  • Transport youth interns to program sites using AFC vehicles as needed

  • Model professionalism, accountability, and community values in all interactions with youth

Community Cooks Workshop Facilitation
  • Support the delivery of in-house and other cooking workshops, creating an engaging and accessible experience for all participants

  • Introduce workshop content, orient participants to the kitchen environment, and guide the cooking process, leading and finishing dishes

  • Assist in writing, editing, and producing recipes for workshops in collaboration with the program manager

  • Shop for food and supplies, ensuring fresh, quality ingredients in compliance with food safety standards

  • Recruit participants by creating printed materials, handouts, and digital communications for workshop events

  • Ensure spaces are properly cleaned and supplies organized before and after each workshop

Meal Box Program Facilitation
  • Support weekly meal box packing, working with staff, youth, and volunteers to ensure boxes meet program standards

  • Coordinate program logistics with sourcing and delivery partners, securing ingredients and supplies ahead of packing
