Transit Justice Organizer

MN350 is a dynamic, volunteer-led grassroots organization building a people’s movement to demand that Minnesota take action and leadership in addressing the climate crisis in an equitable and sustainable way. Position Overview

The Transit Justice Organizer will develop and lead campaigns that advance MN350’s long-term transit, climate, and equity goals. This role will build power with transit riders, volunteers, community members, and coalition partners through relational organizing, leadership development, campaign strategy, and public engagement.

The Transit Justice Organizer will work alongside MN350 staff, volunteer leaders, community members, and coalition partners to build a strong base of transit riders and climate justice advocates across Minnesota. This position will support campaigns that improve public transit, advance racial and economic equity, and strengthen community power.

Role Responsibilities Base Building

MN350 builds support by partnering with the communities we serve. Together, we identify issues, develop shared strategies, and empower our volunteer base to take action.

  • Develop volunteer leaders for transit justice and climate justice campaigns across Minnesota.
  • Organize transit canvasses and other outreach efforts to build MN350’s base of transit riders.
  • Schedule 1:1 conversations with new volunteers and help them understand and acclimate to MN350’s culture, theory of change, strategy, and tactics.
  • Build relationships with transit riders, community members, and volunteers to identify shared concerns and opportunities for action.
  • Work alongside the supervisor, staff organizers, volunteers, and community members to identify impactful campaigns aligned with MN350’s commitment to climate justice.
  • Empower the movement by identifying and cultivating leadership competencies within the volunteer base.
  • Document work and volunteers using MN350's established database.
Team Development

MN350 focuses on collaboration, communication, and trust to build united teams that drive impactful change.

  • Train and develop volunteer organizers in the skills, practices, and political understanding needed to build collective power.
  • Support volunteers in understanding how relationships and team-building are central to building power.
  • Acknowledge accomplishments, big and small, to motivate teams and celebrate wins.
  • Schedule and facilitate regular team meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting notes that provide clarity about direction, status, and next steps.
  • Create and facilitate spaces where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, vulnerabilities, and disagreements.
  • Develop strong and clear communication practices throughout the team.
  • Recognize individual strengths and areas for growth in order to delegate tasks effectively and create leadership development opportunities.
Campaign Development and Execution

The Transit Justice Organizer will help develop strategic campaigns that empower communities to take action, raise awareness, build support, and drive meaningful change.

  • Develop and lead campaigns that advance MN350’s long-term transit, climate, and equity goals.
  • Identify community needs and MN350 objectives, and develop strategies for short- and long-term campaign goals.
  • Collaborate with coalitions, staff leadership, volunteers, and community members to build campaigns that address climate justice and fulfill MN350’s mission.
  • Facilitate or participate in coalitions that advance MN350’s climate justice efforts.
