Schedule
: 40 hoursper week, 12mos/ year. Monday – Friday. Occasional Weeknights and weekends.
Support The Basilica of Saint Mary's vision, mission, and values by providing quality care and hospitality by serving Basilica community members in grief, transition, or need personally and by supporting lay ministry programs. Coordinate the response to parishioner pastoral needs as they come to the parish for funerals, anointing, hospitalization, and prayer requests. Be willing to reach out to offer support when referrals or prayer requests are made.
Support and expand a framework of ministries that encourage community development and engagement at The Basilica through social and spiritual groups.
Coordinator of Pastoral Care reports directly to the Director of Christian Life, gathers pastoral care needs of parish community, and leads volunteer teams involved with caring and support ministries.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR ACTIVITIESWork with a team to create,improve and coordinate programs and systems that enable The Basilica to provide pastoral care and support toindividualsfamilies, and social groups. Competent use of Basilica technology and parishdatabase. Train and support parishioners to be leaders in caring ministries at The Basilica. Specific activities and functions are grouped below.
Caring Ministries- Work with the Director of Christian Life to supervise the Emmaus Listening Ministry within The Basilica of Saint Mary>
Emmaus Ministry is The Basilica title for ourBe Frienders Ministry .
- Regularly meetwith members of the Leadership Team to review status of program andidentifyneeds
- Provide supervision and support for members of the Leadership Team and ministry
- Provide referrals and encourage referrals from staff and church members
- Provide frequent and ongoing public support of the ministry
- Oversee confidential record keeping system
- Facilitate the integration of Emmaus Ministry with other ministries in the church
- Recruit, screen,trainand support Volunteers
- Coordinate and promote allfacetsof Emmaus Grief Ministry:
- Pray with and support parishioners and families as requested; reach out to make offers of caring ministries to those grieving
- Utilize Emmaus Ministers and Threshold Singers to support parishioners or families experiencing illness, hospice, or death
- Coordinate and promote The Basilica’s participation in the Downtown Minneapolis Grief Coalition;participate in quarterly steering committee meetings; host weekly meetings in rotation with other downtown congregations
- Oversee the Basilica’s Grief Ministry: recruit, train, and support Volunteers to offer support and touchpoints in the first year of grief and on the anniversary of the death for three years
- Invite the newly bereaved to the All Souls Vespers, take leadership at the liturgy
- Coordinate and promote Emmaus Homebound Communion Ministry: recruit, train, and support Volunteers; match parishioners and ministers
- Coordinate Emmaus Job Coach Ministry: schedule the intake meeting for new participants in the ministry. Recruit, communicate with, and schedule job coaches to meet with participants. Support participants as an advocate for their efforts by being available for questions or listening to concerns. Review andmaintainhard copy files.
- Funeral Ministry:
Collaborate with Liturgy Department to meet with the families of the dying or deceased to offer grief support and arrange funeral hospitality. Recruit and support Volunteersto support funeral receptions.
Notify volunteers, arrange set-up, verify with caterer, be present at the Mass and reception, etc. Preside over gravesite services, when requested.
