The special care nursery in Minneapolis is a 33-bed, 24-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Hospital. The special care nursery cares for babies who are 32 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly or are transitioning from the NICU to home.
We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff. The Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) is a front-line department/unit leader. The PCS will directly lead clinical support staff and assist in the leadership of RN staff. This position will also be expected to support the NICU at Mercy as needed.
License/Certification/Registration- Active RN on Minnesota Board of Nursing required
- Current BLS required
- Bachelor's degree in nursing required
- 3 years of direct patient care experience within a related specialty
- Informal leadership experience is preferred (charge RN, clinical educator, preceptor, etc.)
- Desired characteristics: dependable, responsible, strong conflict resolution skills, knowledge of assigned unit, ability to multi-task, self-starter with ability to problem solve independently
- Availability for on-call and off-hours rotations/situations as decided by department/unit

Compensation and BenefitsThe posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates, factors include market indicators for the role, skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits.
Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
