Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for the delivery of individualized patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and Practice as defined by Ridgeview Medical Center, the Minnesota Nurse Practice Standards Act, and the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
Job FunctionsResponsibilities include:
- Assesses patient health problems and needs, develops, implements, and evaluates patient care plans accordingly.
- Provides nursing care.
- Advises and educates patients, family members, and significant others on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Documents and maintains accurate medical records and reports.
- Participates in quality improvement activities as appropriate to position.
- Serves as a patient advocate in seeking appropriate community resources to meet patient needs.
- Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, other health‑care providers, and colleagues to enhance own professional nursing practice.
- Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
When functioning as a Charge Nurse, responsibilities include:
- Manages the flow of patients through inpatient and/or outpatient departments.
- Assigns resources to care for patients and arranges staffing to ensure safe patient care.
- Provides work direction and addresses issues during the shift.
- Acts as a liaison between staff, patients, and physicians.
- Demonstrates unit‑specific Charge Nurse competencies.
- Reviews physician orders.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making.
- Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions.
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team.
- Capable of making independent decisions using good critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work and multi‑task in a high‑stress and fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to communicate in English for effective written and verbal correspondence required for job functions.
- Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process.
- BLS Certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Labor and Delivery, NCU, and/or Pediatric experience.
Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation such as: the requirements of the position, experience, education, knowledge, and skills along with location and internal equity. Pay listed does not include any shift, weekend, or other differentials.
