About This PositionThe Registered Staff Nurse (RN) provides holistic care to customers and families, focusing on independent, collaborative, and delegated nursing functions. The role includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN develops and revises the patient’s plan of care, coordinates care among disciplines, delegates activities, participates in shared accountability, and implements leadership to improve practice standards. The scope includes neonates through older adults.
Responsibilities– W6 Trauma and Stepdown Unit
- Care of diverse patient populations including Stepdown, Trauma, Plastics, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Oral Maxillary Facial Surgery, Medical-Surgical.
- Recognize risk factors (cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, renal, endocrine, GI/GU) and collaborate with team for interventions.
- Provide trauma‑informed care, creating a safe, trusting environment.
- Manage violent behaviors with care team, leadership, and security.
- Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, or other oxygen therapy.
- Monitor and report critical laboratory findings (electrolyte imbalances, chemistry/blood counts, abnormal blood gas results, drug levels).
- Intervene for high‑risk patient populations:
Stroke, MI, drug overdose, shock, sepsis, massive/emergent blood administration, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. - Assist high‑risk self‑harm patients, including suicidal, medical/behavioral holds, restraints, and withdrawal.
- Initiate and monitor high‑risk medications (infusions, bolus, IV push, titrations) and patient response.
Education
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of acute care RN experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership and verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills.
- Additional certifications preferred (e.g., CEN, CCRN).
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practice, and ethics.
Licensure & Certification
- Current RN license in the State of Minnesota.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required pre‑employment.
- NRP, TNCC, ACLS, Wisconsin RN license, EMT, PALS, CEN, CCRN, or CFRN within 18 months (where applicable).
- Valid Class D driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record and annual proof of auto insurance (for applicable units).
- Hours per two‑week pay period: 60
- Shift: Nights, 12 hours
