Job Overview

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Emergency Department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

The registered nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible and accountable for patient assessment, analysis, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention application, and the identification and evaluation of outcomes for patients of all ages and populations. The scope of practice extends from a patient’s entry into the emergency room and continues from triage through discharge. Care is centered on patients and families experiencing acute or chronic, actual or potential physical or psychosocial problems.

Unique to emergency nursing are processes that require resuscitation and/or stabilization.

This position is a 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks), 12‑hour night (7pm - 7:30am) shift, with an every third weekend rotation.

• We offer 19 beds in the main section, 7 beds in section two, and deliver care to 30,000 patients annually (80 daily).
• Our nurse to patient ratio is about 1:4-5 and 50% of our cases are mental health related.

• Delivering care to all ages and acuity of patients that seek medical care. Some unique patient populations include pediatrics, sexual assault survivors, psychiatric, trauma, solid organ and blood and marrow transplant, substance abuse.
• Safely performing advanced monitoring using current technology.
• Managing and safely administering complex medication and infusion therapies. Adjusts the patient’s plan of care following the evaluation of patient’s response to the infusion.
  • Sedatives and Paralytics, Analgesics, Adrenergics (sympathomimetics), Antianginals, Thrombolytics, Antiarrhythmic, Antihypertensives, Heparin, Antibiotics, Fluid and electrolyte replacement, Insulin, Blood products (FFP, Platelets, Cryo, Albumin).
• Caring for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit.
