Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg

Job Overview

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Med/Surg Unit at the Northland Medical Center located in Princeton, MN.

The RN will provide care to medical surgical patients with sophisticated medical conditions requiring close observation, monitoring, and interventions. This unit serves adult medical and surgical patients, limited pediatric surgical patients, and adult intensive care patients.

Schedule

This position will be working 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift with an every third week weekend (F,S,S) rotation and a holiday rotation.

About Our Med–Surg 1 Department

22 Beds – Medical Surgical Unit. 4 Bed ICU. Care delivery: 3‑4 patients per RN on day/evening shift, 5‑6 patients on night shift.

Our RNs work in both the ICU and Med Surg units. The department has 50 nurses, 20 nursing assistants, and 1 HUC. Free parking is onsite.

RNs are responsible for achieving and maintaining excellent patient care outcomes by coordinating compassionate, well‑rounded care, helping patients set achievable discharge goals, establishing and updating plans of care, and performing full physical assessment and post‑operative care for our medical surgical population.

Responsibilities
  • Communicating effectively with patients/families, physicians, and the interdependent team regarding the plan of care.
  • Assessing and documenting the learning needs of the patient and family; developing individualized education plans based on identified needs.
  • Actively participating in creating and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency outcomes.
  • Complying with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and other established practice standards.
  • Coordinating with the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation.
  • Actively participating in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).
  • Maintaining knowledge of, and complying with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performing other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Valid RN License from MN Board of Nursing.
  • RN will work both ICU and Med Surg units.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year RN experience.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
