Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the CVICU provides specialized nursing care to adult and geriatric cardiac surgery patients. They deliver holistic, assessment-driven care, supporting patients through open-heart surgeries and postoperative recovery, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and monitor advanced cardiac life support, including Impella and balloon pump management, for postoperative patients.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, interpret cardiac rhythms, and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Develop, revise, and execute individualized patient care plans in accordance with standards and competencies.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate seamless care delivery.
- Delegate appropriate tasks to nursing assistants and support staff, ensuring compliance with clinical protocols.
- Document all patient interactions and clinical activities accurately within the Epic electronic health record system.
- Possess a current Minnesota state RN license and valid BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Demonstrate a minimum of 1 year of clinical experience, with documented skills in cardiac care and post-surgical management.
- Proven experience with Epic EMR and familiarity with managing open-heart surgery patients.
- Must have current documentation of work history, pertinent skills, and two supervisory references.
- Ability to interpret complex cardiac rhythms and operate Impella and balloon pump devices.
- Bilingual skills and experience with adult and geriatric populations are preferred.
