Registered Nurse - Special Care Nursery

Job Title

Coordinates and provides family-centered nursing care to infants, children and adolescents, utilizing the nursing process. Accountable for professional practice including independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions performed in collaboration with other health team members. THIS IS AN MNA CONTRACT POSITION.

The special care nursery in Minneapolis is a 33-bed, 24-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children's Minnesota Minneapolis Hospital. The special care nursery team cares for babies who are 32 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly or are transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home.

We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby  team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Minnesota RN licensure. Current BLS certification. One (1) year nursing experience in a hospital setting. Pediatric experience preferred. Based upon the unit in which you are applying, additional certification(s) may be required. Department specific required qualifications need to be obtained within 6 months of employment. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or obtained during orientation.

Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee's scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard.

When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
