Fairview is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Operating Room at The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank in Minneapolis, MN. This full‑time role is 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks) with 8‑hour shifts Monday through Friday 9 am‑5:30 pm, occasional weekends/holidays, and off shifts to cover vacation requests.
About this positionThe University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an integrated academic health care system comprising two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview, providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community.
Responsibilities- Facilitate OR room turnover and cleanup.
- Readies OR for next patient.
- Procure equipment and ensure proper care and preventive maintenance.
- Transport specimens and blood products.
- Transport dirty case carts to decontamination area.
- Assist in transfer and positioning of patients.
- Assist with preparation of patients for surgery.
- Transport patients as needed.
- Maintain inventory control; restock department with supplies.
- Order and manage supplies as directed.
- Make rounds to keep current inventory in stock.
- Communicate supply issues to appropriate personnel.
- Demonstrate ability to provide care or service, adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
- One of the following:
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview‑sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long‑term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (no need to maintain throughout employment). This is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech.
- Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related role.
