About This Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing compassionate quality care that is customer and family focused. The RN assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of customers according to hospital and care center policies and standards of professional nursing practices. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered. The RN defines, implements, and improves practice standards and environment of care while promoting exceptional customer care.

Duties may vary based on the assigned customer care center which may include differences in the required specific clinical skills. Actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values and guiding principles of Maple Grove Hospital.

FBC RN – Specific Essential Duties
  • Review maternal prenatal history.
  • Collect current signs/symptoms of the newborn, mother, or child.
  • Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate customer plan of care.
  • Perform transition, admission, discharge and transfer assessments while considering both physical and psychosocial elements of newborn, child, mother, and family.
  • Recognize risk factors, changes in status and interventions appropriate for care.
  • Initiate corrective action whenever monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology of the newborn, child, or mother.
  • Manage basic life support needs and stabilize newborn, child, or mother until the physician or APRN is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.
  • Record customer’s vital signs, assessments, patient care and interventions as ordered.
  • Work directly with physicians or APRN, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing, treatments and interventions.
  • Participate and collaborate in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Prepare and administer (orally, subcutaneously, IM and IV) prescribed medications and record them.
  • Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy.
  • Demonstrate phlebotomy skills.
  • Provide IV therapy.
  • Provide bedside care.
  • Operate, maintain, and discontinue proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for customers.
  • Report any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.
  • Teach child, parents, and significant others how to manage care or illness by explaining post‑treatment home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, self‑administration of medication and rehabilitation, and provide referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow‑up treatment.
  • Display professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
  • Record all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format in Epic.
NICU – Specific Essential Duties
  • Work collaboratively with essential ancillary departments that support the NICU.
  • Provide care for Level II babies, including but not limited to:
  • Feed/grow babies.
  • Neonatal abstinence.
  • Late preterm infants.
  • Nasal cannula.
  • IVF and antibiotics.
  • Follow NRP guidelines.
  • Utilize critical thinking and collaborate with NICU provider team.
L&D – Specific Essential Duties
  • Utilize critical thinking and collaborate with Ob/Gyn provider teams.
  • Perform fetal monitoring and interpretations utilizing NICHD/AWHONN nomenclature and guidelines.
  • Provide care to low‑risk inductions/scheduled/unscheduled C/S and provide follow‑up recovery care of mother and baby during recovery period.
Post Partum – Specific Essential Duties
  • Provide care for mothers/babies in vaginal births, non‑complicated post‑C/S births, and healthy infants.
Requirements Education

Associate's degree in nursing; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years RN FBC hospital experience required in any of the combined populations of NICU or L&D.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure in high‑stress situations, act quickly in response to critical situations. Solid PC skills to include MS applications, Internet, etc.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience.
