Key Position Details:

  • 1.0 FTE inpatient PA or NP with 8 hour day shifts, M-F
  • This position's primary location will be Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
  • Privileges will be obtained for all metro hospital sites to allow the incumbent the ability to float to different inpatient sites if needed.

Job Description:

Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a physician/nurse team in accordance with the designated specialty. Works in inpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care for patients
    • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
    • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
    • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
    • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
    • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
    • Refers for specialty care when determined.
    • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of APP scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
  • Participates in health care team
    • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
    • Acts as resource to members of the team.
    • Works with primary care team for program development.
    • Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed.
    • Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients if designated by the specialty.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree - Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in palliative care, internal medicine, family practice, hospital medicine, or oncology

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing or equivalent Physician Assistant licensure required upon hire
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification or equivalent Physician Assistant licensure within specialty required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire
  • Valid Drivers License required upon hire - MN and WI residents must obtain a valid drivers license in their state of residence within 60 days of employment for those working in Complex Care for Seniors, Community Palliative Care and Hospice

Pay Range

Pay Range: $132,226 to $152,568 per year

The pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
