Your role will involve a variety of tasks, from assisting with park upkeep and landscaping to supporting street repairs and utility maintenance. Position Objective: To assist Public Works personnel in the maintenance of City facilities such as ball fields, splash pad, mowing, cleaning of parks and building areas, as well as general repair and maintenance in streets and utilities.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform duties such as mowing, weed whipping, garbage removal, painting, cleaning and repairs of buildings, playground equipment, bleachers, fences, ball fields, street and utility repair and maintenance.
  • Operate equipment such as self-propelled mowers, push mowers, riding lawn mowers (up to 72" mowing deck), weed whips, light duty trucks, hydrant and valve wrenches, light duty compactors, roller and ball field groomer.
  • Assist with the set up and clean up of Whiz Bang Day functions.
  • Wash vehicles.
  • Use hand held radio to receive or transmit messages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be assigned to work evenings and weekends
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of lawn mowers and weed whip operations.
  • Ability to follow instructions with little supervision.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Minnesota Class D driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift/carry 40 pounds, stand for long periods, perform repetitive motions such as weed whipping and shoveling.
  • Ability to communicate with other personnel in a professional manner.
Preferred Training and Experience:
  • Previous maintenance experience with lawn mowers and weed whips.
  • Basic mechanical abilities.
Supplemental Information

Work Environment:
While performing this job, the employee will work mostly outside in the parks and streets. The noise level in the work environment will be noisy when operating equipment like mowers and weed whips. Ear and eye protection will be provided.

Essential Physical Requirements:
The physical demands are those encountered while performing the listed essential functions.
Work is performed mostly in the parks and streets. Hand-eye coordination is necessary for the operation of various pieces of equipment. While performing the duties associated with the job, the employee will be required to stand or sit; walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stoop or crouch.

Must be able to speak and hear. Employee must be able to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
