The QAQC Inspector, Distribution Utilities ensures compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards for construction projects. This role involves field inspections, documentation, and collaboration with project teams to maintain operational excellence. The Inspector plays a critical role in reducing risk, preventing service interruptions, and supporting high-quality construction outcomes across field operations.
What you will do:- Enforce safety, compliance, and quality standards across all project sites.
- Understand the basic federal, local, and company compliance rules.
- Strong client relations skills. Ability to work with clients and other contractors in a respectful and knowledgeable way.
- Keep good organizational and time management skills. Stay organized and manage your time well throughout the workday.
- Inspect gas meter installation and gas meter or leak repairs for quality and standards adherence.
- Monitor contractor work for leaks.
- Field observation including verifying and documenting federal, local and company compliance.
- Observe work happening in the field and record what you see to make sure rules and standards are being followed.
- Monitor field activities for compliance with OSHA, 811 laws, company procedures, state utility regulations, and client safety guidelines.
- Complete daily inspection reports using a company provided iPad. This includes taking photos, filling out forms, tracking time, and entering expenses.
- Read and follow project plans and procedures. Keep track of materials and quantities used and help make sure maps and records are accurate.
- Research records to guide crews and verify field measurements.
- Use client systems to manage project information, data documentation and to communicate with engineers, designers, and field teams.
- Complete required training including Operator Qualification (OQ) modules in a timely manner.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions are identified and coordinate corrective steps.
- Ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection.
- Moves materials weighing up to 73 pounds periodically.
- Position self to access tools and materials in various locations.
- Traverse job sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
- Conduct visual assessments of task quality and job site safety.
- May remain in stationary position for extended periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelors degree preferred).
- Experience:
- 1-3+ years experience with natural gas meters, construction, underground utility installation, locating, surveying, mapping, and/or design.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, PHMSA, NESC, and state utility regulations preferred.
- Knowledge of 49 CFR 192 regulations preferred.
- Familiarity with operator qualifications
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Possession of a valid drivers license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
- Software:
- Proficiency in mobile technology (iPad) for reporting and documentation.
- Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, One Drive, etc).
