About the Job
Summary:
This position involves the testing, evaluation and application of advanced bioinformatics tools for analysis of genomic data. Potential for performing independent genomic experiments at the bench. Working with a team of researchers, the researcher will test both standardized and new software tools used in workflows that integrate different types of genomic and proteomic data. In some cases this researcher will work with collaborators to analyze their data and output results for interpretation and hypothesis generation.
Working knowledge and technical understanding of different bioinformatics software is expected, which will enable this researcher to work independently to solve problems related to optimizing software and workflows, as well as application to research data generated by other lab members and collaborators.
This position is available immediately. The work schedule is Monday-Friday and is flexible and there is opportunity for a hybrid schedule.
Essential Functions:
50% Run genomic analyses on independent projects or on projects in collaboration with lab members. Routine analyses will include RNAseq, ChIPseq, ATACseq. Specialized projects will include analysis of spatial transcriptomics data of human liver samples.
20% Software and workflow testing, evaluation and optimization
Software tools implemented in the Galaxy platform will be tested and evaluated, adjusting parameters to optimize for best results. Where appropriate, this testing will be carried out independently with minimal input from other research team members. In other cases, new software will be implemented needing testing, and will require consultation and direction from other research team members.
20% Carry out wet bench experiments (standard genomic approaches).
10% Assist in publications and presentations
Assistance will be provided in generating manuscripts for publication, conference presentations and training workshops based on optimized software, workflows and results from their application.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
At minimum, a bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, or related field is required, plus at least two years of experience OR a combination of education and work experience to equal at least six years. . Demonstrated expertise, both operational and technical, in contemporary bioinformatics software, including software for analysis of RNA-Seq transcriptome data, ChIPseq analysis and quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics data and tools for integrating these data types is essential.
Proven ability to work with a team of other researchers (biologists, software developers, etc) is also essential. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working at the wet bench and carrying out molecular bioscience research projects is a plus. Experience working in diverse areas of molecular biotechnology, as well as planning and carrying out experiments is also a plus.
Experience with spatial transcriptomic platforms or Fiberseq data is also a plus.
About the Department
BMBB:
