Casual Researcher for Shen Neurolaw Lab (0005)
Duration:
Until 12/31/2026, with possibility of extension.
Salary range: $20/hour.
Commitment:
Part‑time, hybrid work.
Primary Supervisor:
Francis X. Shen, JD, PhD.
A casual research position supports multiple projects within the Lab, including core legal research about law and neuroscience, the NIH funded REACH for BRAIN project, the Dana Foundation Career Network, and the Neurotech Justice Accelerator. Tasks include attending meetings with Dr. Shen, database management and curation, logistical support for community events, and information synthesis to advance project aims.
Responsibilities- 60% Research Communication and Analysis
- Synthesize and disseminate research findings by drafting accessible summaries, newsletters, and briefing memos; translate complex neuroscience and legal concepts for diverse audiences.
- Engage in database management and curation, building and maintaining a comprehensive database of community organizations, leaders, and key stakeholders.
- Provide logistical support for outreach, including invitations, RSVP lists, and preparation of materials.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis related to neuro‑law research.
- Support neurolaw legal research by reviewing case materials, analysing statutes, and reviewing manuscripts.
- Work with internal and external colleagues on the development of research manuscripts; lead drafting and contribute revisions.
- Assist and lead preparation of IRB protocols, protocol amendments, continuing reviews, and maintain IRB compliance documents.
- 40% Administrative
- Draft, edit, and process written materials related to grant‑supported research activities, including reports, statements of work, and email correspondence.
- Assist in establishing timelines, evaluating and revising project plans, and advising on project issues.
- Own the preparation of presentations for local, national, and international meetings.
- Support preparation of grant applications, budgets, and progress reports.
- Perform additional duties as needed based on project requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience in science communication, neurolaw, neuroethics, neuroscience, political science, community engagement, bioethics, law, or related fields.
- Experience or strong potential for research with community engagement skills.
- High motivation and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in neurolaw, neuroethics, neuroscience, or law.
Pay: $20.00 per hour, based on education, qualifications, and experience.
