Temporary Nonexempt Researcher - Department of Neuroscience

This position is in a laboratory involved in defining the pathologic mechanisms and therapies for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) using cellular and transgenic mouse models.

Job Duties /Responsibilities
  • Perform basic molecular biology (DNA purification, PCR), care of mouse models, basic biochemical analysis, and histological analysis.
  • Analyze mouse models (50%) — prepare mouse brains for sectioning, obtain frozen or paraffin sections, perform basic histology and immunocytochemistry, and conduct quantitative analysis of stained sections using stereology, Image

    J, or HALO. Perform RNAscope staining of paraffin sections.
  • Establish and maintain mouse lines (20%) — genotype mouse tails or ear punch using PCR; conduct basic behavioral analysis; administer experimental drugs or compounds; euthanize and harvest mouse brain.
  • Conduct general biochemical analysis of cells and mouse tissues (20%) — homogenize tissues, prepare lysates for immunoblot, and detect proteins by SDS‑PAGE immunoblot; isolate nuclei for RNA‑seq analysis.
  • General laboratory work (10%) — prepare buffers and solutions, stock materials, and clean laboratory areas.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience or related field (e.g., Biology, Psychology) or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
  • Must be willing to work with mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory experience working with rodent brains.
  • Familiarity with neurological diseases.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.00/hour to $23.50/hour; depending on education, qualifications, and experience. Retirement plan options are available for this classification. Additional details provided upon request.
