Casual Researcher – Shen Neurolaw Lab
University of Minnesota Law School, 15th Ave., Minneapolis, MN
- Duration: until 12/31/2025, with possibility of extension.
- Commitment: part‑time, no more than 14 hrs/week.
- Location:
hybrid (some meetings and work in person). - Supervisor:
Dr. Francis X. Shen, JD, PhD.
- Research Analysis (60%)
- Engage in database management and curation, building and maintaining a comprehensive database of community organizations, leaders, and key stakeholders.
- Provide logistical support for outreach, including invitations, RSVP lists, and preparation of sign‑in sheets and information packets.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis related to the research at the intersection of neuroscience and society.
- Support neurolaw legal research, including reviewing legal case materials, statutes, and manuscripts.
- Collaborate on research manuscript development; draft sections and provide revisions.
- Submit manuscripts to peer‑reviewed journals and work toward publication with editors and reviewers.
- Assist in preparation of IRB protocols, amendments, continuing reviews, and maintain IRB compliance documents.
- Administrative (40%)
- Draft, edit, and process written materials: reports, statements of work, and email correspondence for grant‑supported research activities.
- Assist in establishing timelines, evaluate and revise project plans, and advise on project issues.
- Own the preparation of presentations for dissemination at local, national, and international meetings.
- Support preparation of grant applications, budgets, and progress reports.
- Perform other duties as needed based on project needs.
- Hourly pay: $20.00 per hour.
- Retirement plan options available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor‑Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with at least 3years of experience in relevant fields such as neurolaw, neuroethics, neuroscience, political science, community engagement, bioethics, or law.
- Background or potential for research with strong community engagement skills.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Preferred: background in neurolaw, neuroethics, neuroscience, or law.
