As a Senior Operations Research Scientist in the SCNO team, you will study complex supply chain problems and develop cutting‑edge solutions using advanced applied mathematics, machine learning, and optimization techniques. You will analyze large data sets, build simulation and optimization models, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver insights that drive business decisions.
Responsibilities- Understand supply‑chain operational metrics and end‑to‑end cost structure.
- Analyze large volumes of supply‑chain data at granular levels to develop key performance metrics.
- Perform root‑cause analysis to identify drivers of operational performance and variance.
- Employ operations research methodologies such as linear programming, stochastic processes, and simulation to solve complex problems.
- Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to gather inputs and understand processes.
- Interpret model results and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Create clear inferences and data‑driven stories to influence decision‑making with senior leaders.
- PhD or MS in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of industry experience in supply‑chain optimization, simulation, probability, and statistics.
- Proficient programming skills in Python or R and advanced SQL querying.
- Experience building data pipelines in the Hadoop ecosystem (PySpark).
- Extensive knowledge of supply‑chain concepts such as forecasting, inventory planning, optimization, and logistics.
- Strong statistical and data‑mining skills to analyze historical sales data and simulation results.
- Deep passion for problem solving, empirical research, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to tell data‑driven stories through visualizations and narratives.
- Self‑driven, results‑oriented, and able to meet tight timelines.
- Team player with collaborative abilities across a global team.
This role will operate as Hybrid/Flex for Your Day: core responsibilities will be performed both onsite at the Target HQ in MN and virtually, based on the day’s requirements. Work duties cannot be performed outside the country of the primary work location unless specifically prescribed.
