About the Job
Duties and Responsibilities:
A researcher with a record of outstanding training in biomedical engineering, systems neuroscience or related engineering/science field who have a record of excellent writing skills, demonstrated through work and publication in movement disorder neurophysiology. The position will center around writing and data analysis, related to novel applications of deep brain stimulation technology to the treatment of neurological disease, the mechanisms of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and motor system neurophysiology across various neurological movement disorders.
Duties:
85% - Research duties:
Grant writing, publication of results in manuscripts, proceedings, and conference abstracts, editing of colleague's manuscripts, data analysis, method development, software/analysis code development, data management.
10% - Leadership/Mentoring:
Mentoring of trainees in data analysis and writing, leading discussion on data and literature reviews.
5% - Outreach:
Assist with the organization of patient/community outreach and industry partnerships.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
The candidate should have substantial experience conducting neurophysiology experiments in humans, particularly as it relates to movement disorders. The candidate is also required to have strong writing skills, as demonstrated through previous successful grant applications and manuscript publications. As such, the candidate will have a strong record of presenting research results through publications and presentations. A strong quantitative background and signal processing expertise appropriate for the analysis of neural activity is required.
● PhD in biomedical engineering, neuroscience or related engineering/science field with related experience
● Strong record of grant and manuscript writing, and presenting research results through publications and conference abstracts
● Experience in conducting neurophysiological and behavioral experiments in human subjects
● Expertise in the collection and analysis of single unit and local field potential neural signals
● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others and mentor trainees.
Preferred qualifications:
● Strong signal processing/coding expertise in Matlab and any of the following, but not limited to:
Python (including Num Py), C#, C++, Simulink, Lab View, R, and Adobe Premiere.
● Experience performing intraoperative neural recordings in human subjects in Parkinson's disease or dystonia and Deep Brain Stimulation-related research.
About the Department
This position is located in the Department of Neurology.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $45.00 - $49.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
