Position: Research Manager 3 - Clinical Research (Temporary, 3 months)

Job Title Research Manager 3 - Clinical Research (Temporary, 3 months)

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking an 80% FTE Research Manager 3, for a temporary, 3 month assignment. This is a project leadership role funded in anticipation of a federal grant. The person will be the primary administrative lead for coordinating a large, complex, multidisciplinary team of researchers from engineering, psychology, neuroscience, and computer science across multiple departments, ensuring progress against milestones and clear technical communication.

A critical aspect is rapid progress on deliverables and the ability to pivot quickly based on new evidence. The role requires extraordinary organizational skills, adaptability to diverse personalities and styles, and efficient communication. Outstanding performance may position the individual for leadership in entrepreneurial ventures stemming from the work.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and lead a large, complex multidisciplinary team (10%).
  • Manage multi‑institution contracts, agreements, and coordination, bringing stakeholders together to overcome roadblocks (10%).
  • Oversee significant aspects of the project, including data collection, financial budgets, and tracking progress with project management software (20%).
  • Define deliverables, prepare key monthly and quarterly progress reports, and identify solutions to major roadblocks; also produce summary reports for sponsors (20%).
  • Lead problem identification and ensure compliance with regulations, laws, and institutional policies; mentor staff in ethical conduct (10%).
  • Collaborate with investigators, project managers, and study staff to manage project planning operations (10%).
  • Disseminate and translate research findings through publications, public reports, sponsor briefings, and presentations (5%).
  • Serve as a representative on committees and teams, making decisions and recommendations on behalf of the project (5%).
  • Develop and modify practices and procedures to improve efficiency and quality (10%).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree with substantial research and publication record, 8+ years of experience and prior oversight of a cross‑disciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a similar field.
  • Professional communication skills, project management experience, and relevant science/technology experience; experience translating science for a broad audience is a strength.
  • Extraordinary organizational skills and ability to adapt to diverse personalities and work styles.

Pay Range: Salary range is $127,000 – $133,000 annualized, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
